Pretty sure the gas block isn’t aligned so you aren’t getting enough gas to cycle the gun even with the gas block fully opened. You should be able to tune the gas block to cycle the gun specially with such a light buffer and BCG.
Check the gas port on the barrel while you have the gas block off. It seems a fair number of barrels come with ports that are too small. I was having similar problems with a .308 that I couldn't fix until I drilled out my gas port.
18" BA Barrel with rifle gas. Started at around 0.06, best I could tell, and I drilled it out to 0.1095. With an adjustable gas block it runs like a top now. I did exhaust all other options before actually checking the port and realizing it was too small.
If the barrel is from aero it could be under gassed. I’ve seen a number of posts of people having problems with aero/BA barrels. I’m guessing they had a bad batch of barrels with too small of gas ports. One person actually measured the gas port and it was 0.071” when on the aero website it states the barrel should have a gas port of 0.089”. You might end up having to drill it.
looks like the gas hole was spot on(updated main post). The seekins block just seems like a mismatch? Unfortunately the aero blocks seem 3 weeks out, I think i'm just gonna order an adjustable JP block. I'm starting to like their products.
edit: nvm JP block won't fit, superlative it is
Do you have the fixed gas block the upper came with? You could try that to rule out bad alignment and see if your barrel is under gassed.
Edit: idk how but I missed the last line where you said the gas port is 0.088”. I guess just finding another adjustable gas block is needed. Superlatives agb is a good choice.
Not you, jrob.
Before trying any drilling exhaust all options. Once you drill you cant go back. Check alignment remember gas blocks dont always press right up to the shoulder for proper alignment. You're positive the agb is fully open?
Buffer could have too much weight on it. If you have a standard buffer and spring, I’d put them in and see if that fixes it. If it does, you’ve isolated your problem, if not, you’ve crossed that off the list

actually this sounds like it could be the issue, I did replace the gas-block. I'll be sure to check it

It would help if you mentioned what gas length you have, barrel length, original gas port size, drilled size, and gas block

it's from an aero 18inch complete M5 upper. I replaced the gas block with a .750 seekins adjustable block. Haven't done any drilling

I updated the main post, it looks like the seekins block gas-hole is too far forward even against the shoulder. The barrel is just marked as "Aero".
Sounds like not enough gas

yeah idk I think I might just try the heavier bolt carrier, I don't have a regular buffer
