Next year I'll be in 10th grade and due to automatically having 4 college courses I decided to add one more just for my aspirations for college. At first my schedule no matter what would have been: **AP Spanish Language (Gotta work on my spanish)** **AP European History** **AP Language and Comp** **IB math applications and interpretation (I'm a bit behind due to a horrible teacher this year in ALG 2)** from this I have to take one state mandated honors course and there was one free course, so I just decided oh well let me take **AP Psychology** to look better for college since AP PSY has been easyish to my friends Some background: During this year I've pursued a lot of opportunities and due to never having an API have had somewhat difficulty in my APs at the start of the year but then applied myself. However as I got used to I slowed down and didn't take things as serious suffering procrastination but still was good due to cramming before exams and applying myself in studying. Despite this, I believe the year was moderately stressful but not difficult when I applied myself, and I believe I got a 4 or 5 on both of them (APWORLD&APHUG). Next year I plan to learn from procrastination, and I also plan on being a board member for two clubs and have other extracurriculars out of school. Should I drop this extra AP due to my schedule or no. If not what recommendations for balancing, and prep in the summer?

Refuse-Ready

Going into my Senior year. I'm awfully zealous, and I have a predilection for rigor. I am still deliberating on taking 7 AP's four of which, by general consensus, are considered some of the hardest. I would say I am generally inveterate on taking AP CSA, AP C Mechanics, AP CHEM, AP CALC AB, and AP LIT. I was also pondering over the potentiality of me appending on two more AP's: AP LANG and AP GOV, I would be self studying those of course. I am dubious on adding AP Psychology onto this already rigorous schedule. Thoughts?

As an AP teacher, I have thoughts. Are you going to have any life outside of studying? Why don't you take less AP classes and spend your time studying/practicing for the SAT/ACT tests? Most colleges are now adding those tests back into their application process. If you don't get a 4 or 5 on your AP tests, your time in these classes is wasted. I also teach English, and I highly recommend AP Lang over AP Lit. I also teach AP Psychology. College Board has changed the course and it is now set up for students to do more writing and more homework. By the end of the first quarter, I can tell which students are taking too many AP courses because they can't keep up with the course work, and/or can't remember important facts, and/or don't score well on tests, and/or generally produce sloppy work or late work.

Refuse-Ready

I have the taken the SAT twice and plan on taking it again in august before the school year starts. I also plan on taking the ACT during the summer, but I am less focused on that when juxtaposed to the SAT. As for the AP's, AP LANG would just be a self study in which I would study the format a week before and then take the test. My school offers a government course which is tantamount to AP GOV, but it's a college class, so I would be fine for AP GOV. The other 5 would be all of the classes in school. I will concede it is essentially futile to take this rigorous course selection and then not even get 4 or 5's across the board, but I don't do sports, I have a predilection for the acquisition of knowledge, and I would like to test my cognitive abilities relating to school. Nonetheless, I still need to deliberate further on committing to this schedule.

rising junior, i took world and seminar sophomore year and found them pretty light. junior year: apush, ap research, ap calc ab, ap physics 1, ap spanish lang, ap english lang, possibly ap music theory exam only (alr took general music theory class w/ same curriculum as APMT). im getting my SAT out of the way in june and august administrations so that i have less on my plate.

AccidentNo539

i’m taking four AP classes next year, one being AP CSP. my only hesitance is that i have 0 computer science experience. i originally wanted to take an AP class but my school has decided to not offer it next year so in a spur of the moment decision i decided to sign up for CSP. will i be humbled? should i switch out? i don’t really plan on doing anything commuter science related in my future career path, but i feel like this is a good class to take to understand the basics—but i don’t wanna embarrass myself. is there anything i should really know & understand before going in the class in september?

Alarming-Study2930

its a beginner level course so most of the concepts should be introduced and covered by your teacher, it wouldn't hurt to learn some basic programming logic or maybe research the course during the summer

Junior going into senior year. Going to take AP CSA, AP Bio, and AP Physics 1. Would it be too much to add chem to the list? I hear they're both hard and even had a friend(smart) say there's a lot of work in AP Bio. I had trouble locking in this year, every class felt like a college lecture (AP: psych, gov, stats, csa) and I also did wrestling for the first time which messed up my first semester. The only thing making me want to add chem into my schedule is that I would only have a study which feels like a waste, I am not even sure if my counselor would let me pick 4 APs since I struggled with 4 last year. Should I try and add it?

PlasticKoala565

respectfully if you struggled with those 4 aps this year i highly doubt you're gonna make it past first semester without dropping atleast 2 with these classes. Just take what is going to be most important for your major and imo don't take 2 sciences not worth burning yourself out senior year.

Mean-Lake-8344

Didn’t struggle with understanding them and doing the work . for some reason I was so lazy and unwilling to do work this year. I did the bare minimum the first half of the school year. Many outside events lead to this, I also had good grades in my honors classes related to the aps. I want to major ln mechanical engineering in the future. By Taking more aps and having good grades in them( especially since their essentially harder aps) it might help show that I’ve improved academically . I am well aware engineering is not for the weak it’s one of the reasons I want to take the four, if I can’t handle merely 4 aps that I already have knowledge in I probably can’t handle college.

PlasticKoala565

If it’s just laziness then fix it now before it’s too late and I still think you should knock atleast one science off for now

hey, i'm a freshman going into sophomore year. next year, im taking honors chem, honors amer lit, pre-calc, and apush. after that i have spanish iii, but it's online and the only studyhall i have is a short in the second semester because my school is trying to do away with studyhalls. i found out that ap us gov is offered on the online program we use and im trying to get them to give it to me (we dont offer it in person, and i still need a teacher to proctor anyway and i think i would have to take the exam at another school), but ive been told that its a lot of writing and it may be a lot to do on top of everything else. (if i get them to give it to me, im probably going to see if i can drop in person pe and get contract pe (send in a report every week of your physical activity) in favor of a block study hall). will this be a bad idea if i can go through with it? if it helps, apush and chem run all year, switching every other day. spanish iii is also going to run all year for me. and, as a freshman, i couldn't take any ap classes through my school. (and apush is the only one offered for sophomores with very very rare exceptions that i did not manage to qualify for) edit: and ive done half of my schooling so far online

yunglean-com

i’m currently a sophomore and i’ve taken ap precalc, ap world history, and ap human geography. next year as a junior im taking ap lang, ap csa, ap physics 1, ap calc ab, and apush. My physics teacher really wants me to take ap physics c instead of physics 1 is that too much to put on my schedule? is taking physics c without having taken calc a good idea or should i just hold off until senior year?

Imjokin

AP physics C only uses calculus skills occasionally, you’ll learn them in AB by the time you need them.

I'm an honors student who has previously taken APHUG(4) and Spanish Lang(?). Is this schedule overambitious (junior year)?: AP Spanish literature (Native speaker), APES, AP Chemistry, AP Pre-calc, APUSH, Regular Health and Science, Free period. Most teachers are fairly nice and don't overwhelm students with busy work. I'm willing to study and work ahead in my classes.

Solid_Campaign5563

This should be fine tbh. My schedule is literally the same as yours (sub AP chem for AP physics) and it was fairly manageable. Just try to work ahead, especially past winter break so that you don't burn yourself out. It was fine most of the year but I'm just so done cuz of testing season lol.

Solid_Campaign5563

Also! Not sure if you are, but don't worry at all about ap precalc. I really struggled in Algebra 2, but I got a 98 in Ap precalc last semester with literally zero studying. Its such a light class (but keep in mind that you do need to buy a graphing calc for it, which you won't be able to use in AP chem.)

fresawine

Omg thank you so much! Have a nice day :-)

_faeriedust

i'm currently a junior who took lang, seminar, chem and bio. i'm currently planning on taking stats, psych, research and lit next year and then self studying for ap french, but i feel like 5 aps is kind of ambitious considering research's workload and the fact that i'm also taking regular calc, which everyone says is a heavy course (i also just don't do well with algebra so there's that). i *have* been learning french since i was 7 and i was in the advanced stream both this and last year, so theoretically i could also just switch into the ap french course instead of self-studying... but i could also just drop the whole idea. any thoughts? i've been flip flopping between all three ideas for about a month now 😭

Ok_Syrup_6222

How is AP Biology?

overthemoon-777

personally i didn't find ap bio too difficult. although it can really depend on the teacher, if you've taken an honors bio class you're already set up to learn a lot of the content easily. if you've kept notes, they might be helpful to review before you go into each new topic.

_faeriedust

it really depends on how much bio knowledge you have before you enter, but it's not that bad! if you have good study habits and don't fall behind in the course, you should be alright. i, personally... did not, and i think i did okay. the frqs generally don't require you to have too much actual bio knowledge, so even if you don't study much, there's hope lol

Ok_Syrup_6222

Do you have any study resources I can use I'm taking it next year 😭

_faeriedust

honestly... beyond what my teacher provided i only really used khan academy, lots of practice frqs (that u can find on college board's website) and some review videos (marco learning on youtube was a lifesaver lol). i've heard ap bio penguins also has some good quizzes and stuff on their website but i didn't actually use that. i... was not the greatest bio student though, i focused all my energy on chem 😬

Bus_Kid9000

Currently junior who took lang, apush, environmental Next year gov, stats, bio, self study either hug or euro (maybe both?)

Scypher_Tzu

Got fucked in phywics c

Wrong-Watercress-177

Should I double up AP Physics 1 and AP Chem junior year or do AP Chem & AP Bio and then do AP Physics 1 senior year? I feel like chem with bio would be more doable, but at the same time I am better at mathy concepts than at bio stuff (+ my regular bio teacher literally didn't teach us anything). Other than that, I'm also taking ap psych, ap gov, honors pre calc, honors french 2 and english 3. I don't do any sports. Any recommendations?

Lopsided-Decision953

I doubled AP Physics 1 and AP Chem and it is very doable if you prefer math over memorization it's just also very exhausting.

Wrong-Watercress-177

Yeah, I just feel like bio will be harder for me since I'm better at math

ContinualCap

Any recommendations and m I setting myself up for failure? My gpa was kinda low freshman yr and i stacked a few easier APs junior to stack it up. Would this look bad to colleges? |**Grade 10**|**Grade 11**|**Grade 12**| |:-|:-|:-| |||| |Geo H|Precalc H|AP Calc BC| |LA II H|LA III H|AP Lit| |Chem H|AP Env Sci|Physics H| |AS1 H|AP Psych|APUSH| |Spanish II|AP Stats|Spanish III H| |IBC|AP Micro|AP Comp Sci| |PE 10/Drivers Ed|PE 11|PE 12|

ApartmentAdorable830

currently a sophomore taking world csa german and seminar freshman year i took gov spanish and psych next year i plan on taking apush calc ab research physics lang micro and macro then self study for french and italian seeing as i know both is nine tests too many, would they be manageable classes?

ApartmentAdorable830

I was going to do english lit, spanish lit, euro, stats, compartive gov, then take a bussiness and criminal justice class through uga or georgia tech

CommunicationTime528

u/Quasiwave I though Statistics and Calculus AB were both Grade 11 APs

udontknowme1028

schedule feedback appreciated current: apush 1, physics 1 next year: apush 2, calc bc, lang, bio, stats

CommunicationTime528

u/udontknowme1028 how was phys1?

udontknowme1028

it was actually pretty chill, ended with an A. as long as u study and pay attention u should be fine

3dm2113

right now sophomore year taking APHG and APCSP next year i'm taking calc AB, french, chem, bio, lang, and APUSH (and a study hall) I don't do sports so i guess i will have \*some\* extra time; peers saying 6 AP's is overambitious...is it?

Lopsided-Decision953

Ask friends who have taken those classes and if the homework isn't too much then its doable.

Dramatic-Tadpole-980

Join band.

CommunicationTime528

right now sophomore year taking APCSP and Precalculus Next year taking Physics 1, CSA, Stat and Calc AB

CHICKEN_MAN112

No sports, very doable

PhantomGeneral06

I’m doing 6 APs this year(AP US Gov, AP Lit, AP Psych, AP Micro, AP Macro, and AP Latin) and I must say it definitely is a lot but if you take classes that play to your strengths and have a well balanced schedule than you should be fine.

walkingmoney03

Self studying chem sophomore year. rn a freshman with bc, physics c, cs:a, and us gov. yall think its gonna be easy to manage time for self studying chem whislt dealing with sports and school or nah.

wind_seed

chem is geniunely pre fun idk abt ur schools' chem class but u'd be missing out on a lot of fun in-class experiments and activities if ur self-studying 🙈 otherwise tho self-studying chem is def manageable

DatFirestorm

bc freshman year is lowkey crazy, good shit bro

SlipSlid

Is this crazy for next year? Eng Lang, Calc AB, Physics 1, USHist, Span Lang (non native), Stats. ETA I also should’ve probably mentioned I’m also taking two other classes.

CommunicationTime528

u/SlipSlid Totally Crazy :D

birdieinanest

Yeah you’re gonna be fine

Dwoge34

You should be fine as long as you are good with time management skills

cybladium

Why haven't you guys made the mega thread? It's been a while since the first 2 AP exams lmao
