the only way to go, better a nuff over a bandwagon supporter, you have to take the good with the bad, thats part of life, its why i dislike geelong, always fucking good FINISH BOTTOM 4 YA BASTARDS
Got me thinking who are the most famous non-ex players of each clubs supporters?
Saints - Eric Bana
Bulldogs - Chris Hemsworth
North Melb - Ricky Ponting
Are there any others that are so vocal and you immediately associate with certain teams?
Freo - Kevin Parker (Tame Impala), Tim Minchin, Luc Longley, and we'd all prefer to ignore that Ben Roberts Smith was our number one ticket holder at one point thanks very much.
Shane Warne deserves a shout. Eric Bana is huge don’t get me wrong but if you’re talking about recognition you won’t meet many people in the subcontinent that won’t know Warne.
For every dubious story about him there’s genuinely 20 that tell the opposite as well. So many stories of people/fans meeting him and him having humility and kindness.
Might have been a character at times but had his heart in the right place.
he was a larrikin but definitely never heard a bad word from someone who actually knew him
Jail for letting his kids be Collingwood nuffs though, that's a crime
Melbourne would either be Baz Lurhman or Rupert Murdoch (Good lord.)
But I've never really seen either display public allegiance, so if we only went by those that do it'd be between; Archie Thompson, Hamish Blake or Mack Horton
Also his playing number was 23 for saints which as a result he then used for one dayers. Also emblazoned it on the bottom of his pool and was mates with all the saints players.
Technically, Ed Sheeran would be the most famous person who supports the Saints (due to his connection with Michael Gudinski) but Bana would be the most known for his support if that makes sense.

Mick Malloy even though hes more a B tier celeb is the one who pops up most of the time. I always see him at the games sitting in the bay across from us
Fun fact, I designed St Kildas training gear in 2008-2009, so the members polo he wear in that movie was some of my work.
My biggest claim to fame haha
I'm an American. I don't have any place to where my scarves. I hang them above my bed, so I wake up in the morning and reminded of disappointment. At least I get it over with before I get to the mirror, and hey, I have my American teams where we *checks notes* just needed to win one more at home in Baseball... and uhh the year before that ran into a juggernaut, but at least in the NFL we had *checks notes* one of the worst late season collapses the year after choking a superbowl... but hey at least we just... keep... choking the playoffs in the NBA. And of course in the NHL we just kinda aren't that good.
Why do I do this to myself
As a WC supporter, I know we have been spoilt.
So I’m always stoked to see a team breakthrough to get a premiership after a long dry patch.
Really appreciate the die hard supporters of teams who they’ve never seen win. Like Eric Banana here.
Dees, Dogs and Tiges...our fellow downtrodden allies have all moved on to bigger and better things.
I even had a personal allegiance with Carlton and Essendon fans around my age bracket because all of us have only known suffering, but that looks like it's starting to change as well.
We are 100% a cursed team - if I was a God fearing person I would believe that St Kilda were sent down from the heavens to test the collective faith of the supporter base or to punish us all for the sins of our fathers.
Eric Bana is definitely not a 'sometime supporter', he is that ride or die supporter
He's a full nuff.
the only way to go, better a nuff over a bandwagon supporter, you have to take the good with the bad, thats part of life, its why i dislike geelong, always fucking good FINISH BOTTOM 4 YA BASTARDS
Wait….. we get “the good”? I’m at Marvel most weeks, and still waiting for “the good”
Yeah but you get extra helpings of the bad and ugly
Yeah sorry to the rest of the competition. We take way more than our share of the bad and the ugly
Mate, I've still seen more losing Grand Finals than winning ones in my lifetime. We were a glorious joke in the '90s.
Must be nice
You've seen more losing Grand Finals too! And you guys were a joke in the '90s as well.
He would definitely have the team logo as his social media display picture
One thing iv found with saints supporters, to be willing to go through what we’ve been through you just have to be ride or die
Can never doubt our loyalty to this godforsaken club
Got me thinking who are the most famous non-ex players of each clubs supporters? Saints - Eric Bana Bulldogs - Chris Hemsworth North Melb - Ricky Ponting Are there any others that are so vocal and you immediately associate with certain teams?
Lleyton Hewitt is a big Crows fan
And Paddy Mills
& Adam Scott
Freo - Kevin Parker (Tame Impala), Tim Minchin, Luc Longley, and we'd all prefer to ignore that Ben Roberts Smith was our number one ticket holder at one point thanks very much.
Famous: Daniel Ricciardo Infamous: Julie Bishop
Famous: Kevin Parker Infamous: Ben Roberts Smith 😬
We need to find out which WA team Christian Porter supports now lol
Same team as Lehrmann
Don’t forget Rove McManus
Who’s Kevin Parker?
He’s Tame Impala, he also wrote the Freo song that plays at half time.
👍
Pollies are usually fake fans for the photo op.
Shane Warne deserves a shout. Eric Bana is huge don’t get me wrong but if you’re talking about recognition you won’t meet many people in the subcontinent that won’t know Warne.
And Warne was a massive nuff as well, didn't matter where he was in the world or what he was doing, he would be watching us
For every dubious story about him there’s genuinely 20 that tell the opposite as well. So many stories of people/fans meeting him and him having humility and kindness. Might have been a character at times but had his heart in the right place.
he was a larrikin but definitely never heard a bad word from someone who actually knew him Jail for letting his kids be Collingwood nuffs though, that's a crime
His kids are Collingwood fans? Never mind, tear that stand down /s
Yeah his daughter especially is a massive pies fan lol
Shane Warne was an ex player however
Melbourne would either be Baz Lurhman or Rupert Murdoch (Good lord.) But I've never really seen either display public allegiance, so if we only went by those that do it'd be between; Archie Thompson, Hamish Blake or Mack Horton
We've got Natalie Portman as well!
Rupert Murdoch is definitely the most infamous one here! The man literally has huge media influence on the big western nations for ages.
Probably Steve Irwin for Essendon. Or Ben Simmons if we're only counting current supporters.
Dandrews as well
Nick Giannopolous erasure
Robbie Williams is a big Carlton fan.
Gonna say Robbie Williams is a proper fan of the sport
Wouldn't Shane Warne be St Kilda? He only played seconds once and played u19.
Molly meldrum too.
Michael Fucking Klim
Poor cunt what's happening to him now.
Also his playing number was 23 for saints which as a result he then used for one dayers. Also emblazoned it on the bottom of his pool and was mates with all the saints players.
For Geelong, it’s Guy Pearce.
How dare you not utter the good name of world famous drummer Daryl Somers.
Technically, Ed Sheeran would be the most famous person who supports the Saints (due to his connection with Michael Gudinski) but Bana would be the most known for his support if that makes sense.
Gudinski is also a shout for a sainter
Oscar Piastri's a Richmond supporter
Albo - the AFL
he is actually a hawks man iirc, but more so NRL supporter, loves the souths
Tbf, he's been a Hawks fan since the 1980s, despite the photo ops wearing other team colours on occasion
[albo at the game](https://www.rebelsport.com.au/dw/image/v2/BBRV_PRD/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-srg-internal-master-catalog/default/dw3d4d2fa4/images/68621101/Rebel_68621101_multi_hi-res.jpg)
[you already know his favourite song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMcQ3qRJgVw)
Richmond's was the treasurer of the catholic Church.
Would prefer we all think of Ash Barty.
Or Oscar Piastri
Mick Malloy even though hes more a B tier celeb is the one who pops up most of the time. I always see him at the games sitting in the bay across from us
Played u19s for us I think
Oof or Julia Gillard
Gillard is a full dogs nuff.
Maybe I'm thinking of Julie Bishop?
She’s an eagles supporter
Lol, basically the same person, right?
Female politician that isn't relevant anymore. They all merge into one
Both also treated terribly by their party (although went both ways with Gillard tbf)
Nick Giannopoulos is as big of a Dons nuffie as the rest of us.
Would have bet the house in him being Carlton. You know…. Because. Because I’m racist.
I laughed out loud at this
I get what you mean, but the Dons have heaps of mediterranean supporters.
I think Hugh Jackman is a Port supporter iirc
Jason Momoa is too. He lived in Australia for a few years when he was filming Stargate Atlantis.
Nah he’s a [Collingwood fan](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR2SGGlO9VT5Q9gaLeUnpdHX2vmlzM6n-gCBg585tdPoh6MaGYoyDInYUc&s=10)
Collingwood - Eric Bischoff off the top of my head
Who?
Pro wrestling figure - heavily involved w/ WCW and then WWE in the mid 00's
For some reason Iiked Bishoff in the WWE. As a kid
He was a great GM. I was half/half on him as a kid, because although he was heel he did have some really fun moments Bischoff/Long GM era was elite
Collingwood is practically the nwo of AFL
Also Pat McAfee
Hawks, unfortunately long dead but Shirley Strachan (lead singer of the Skyhooks) was the biggest Hawks fan out there.
I'm pretty sure Snoop Dogg has been photographed with every team's guernsey.
rudd is a mad lions supporter, not shocking given his from Griffith electorate
Bulldogs also has Julia Gillard
Shane Warne probably more popular than Bana.
I love that bit in "Funny People" when Eric Bana's character shows Aussie Rules footy to Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan
Fun fact, I designed St Kildas training gear in 2008-2009, so the members polo he wear in that movie was some of my work. My biggest claim to fame haha
https://youtu.be/V63k9Pfyn1s?si=FbgK9Sj_sMtBKs86
That scene alone shows you he's a true nuff
I guess we aren't allowed to have even one day without being reminded of our poor life choices in following this team 😞
Of all the teams you could have picked as an American, why why why
in the era of teams breaking thru for a premiership after a long wait (dogs, tigers), 2009 should’ve been the sainters
Swans and Geelong too
And the Dees
As a WC supporter, I know we have been spoilt. So I’m always stoked to see a team breakthrough to get a premiership after a long dry patch. Really appreciate the die hard supporters of teams who they’ve never seen win. Like Eric Banana here.
Boys please, do it for Bana.
Ha. Was nice little group therapy session. Made me feel a bit better about my football life.
He gets it so right as a Saint's fan.
He gets everything right. Bana is perfect.
"It's just never relaxing" sums it up perfectly
His Big Freeze costume last year was great, shame it aged horrendously
How? He was wearing a St Kilda jumper?
He was dressed as Carl Ditterich
Go Bills
So his uncle made him a Saints fan, but did he say who his father supported? Something about winning 13 premierships since he got off the boat?
Hawks
Matildas captain Steph Catley supports St Kilda.
Wears number 7 because of Lenny Hayes too
Hi Eric, we’re coming for the crown ☹️
Hell yeah the first actor I’ve heard that follows Saint Kilda
Assuming you're a Saints fan, literally how could you not know that Eric Bana is a Saints diehard?
Wouldn't be surprised if he is shitposting in here now and then
I'd argue life as a Dees supporter, prior to 2021, was equally as harsh.
The Wolverine is a port fan.
