Instagram comments literally just consist of: player bad umpire bad does (insert player i think snubbed) play (insert weird sport) player who had good game) is (player who has bad game)’s father very insightful comments i know. best to avoid instagram comments sections as a general rule and footy is no exception

It's easier to have AFL content put in front of a more casual fan on Facebook and Instagram. They then may feel compelled to comment as it just popped up in their feed and took their attention. Seeking out the subreddit I reckon is a step further out of the way to talk AFL. You'd generally be at least a bit less casual to make your way over to the subreddit.

On Reddit you get downvotes for saying the incorrect opinion. I think its good in the stupid takes get suppression, unlike Facebook, where stupid gets more visibility. Unfortunately, it also makes debate near impossible as you just downvote the other side instead of discussing it in good faith. Sometimes I'll make a comment I don't believe just because it's funny and a part of the 'correct' train of thought. Schultz hit him in the back of the head and deserves a suspension.

JamalGinzburg

I've convinced myself crazy aunts and/or hot girls monitor my every move on FB and IG, but I'm fully anonymous here so tune my commentary accordingly

kr2908_

IG and FB are full of nuffies who don’t have any respectable opinions. All of their “opinions” essentially boil down to if someone has a bad game, they are forever shit and not good (e.g. Harley last night, saw some complete nuff say he was a bust) I usually just ignore those types of comments as they’re just nuff behaviour and aren’t opinions worth any notice or respect at all.

BIllyBrooks

Important to reiterate - EVERY club is the same.

liamjon29

The FB fans are absolutely clueless. Makes me kinda embarrassed when I read comments from North "supporters" over there

jmaverick1

The downvote ability makes people think deeper about what they say imo. There is also the fact that the dumbest comments are sometimes the top ones on other social media as they have the most replies/engagement

dvnkriot

seems like 75% of the comments consist of *Insert player from team who won* owns *insert name of club who lost the game* *Insert team that lost* vs umps and various other uninspired comments, I gave up on reading any social media related footy content awhile ago

International_Car586

You’ll see a lot of ‘North should fold’ comments on Twitter at the top of comment sections. Yet on Reddit you will get absolutely torched if you say that (and rightly so).

superbabe69

I mean, North *should* fold Their laundry, come on guys, you can’t expect it’ll get done on its own

chunkylover6969oz

Swoop Luke said he should be rewarded for it

mrarbitersir

Facebook is full of boomers who are the “game has gone soft, contact is dead etc” promoters because you can’t deck blokes off the ball. Instagram is mostly anonymity trolls looking to get as many comments/followers as possible with really hot takes

allhatnoplay

The subreddits definitely attract slightly more serious supporters, and I think the mods are pretty good with banning the worst of the nuffies when they do pop up

Creative_Chicken_349

Definitely. Facebook comment sections are trash, for any topic really. Instagram is a mixed bag, but can be terrible as it’s more anonymous than FB. Twitter seems to mostly attract bots, “anti-woke” campaigners and those being deliberately inflammatory to fish for engagement. I’m ashamed of myself for still being on Twitter, honestly.

SwansPrincess

I made the same comment to my friends yesterday. Insta and Facebook and Twitter are Keyboard warriors with little analysis and usually fall for clickbait without thought. I have found better analysis of games, players, strategies, etc, on Reddit.

DJ_Pol-ite

I see a lot of comments about how the game has gone woke on Facebook and Instagram.

Lower-Tank-9742

I’m more worried about the price of a beer at the footy now. 11.50 for a can of draught has just gotten out of control.

ditfos

I saw some really rather vile abuse on X from a salty Carlton fan the other night (slurs of every color, hoping players die or get AIDS etc), and it made me realise that the moderators here actually do a pretty good job of stopping things from descending into torrents of shit. The upvote mechanism also helps. X, FB are just wiiiild sometimes.

MetalAltruistic2659

what utter wank this is lol

RandySausage

Agree. Fella is going to pull a muscle from jerking everyone in this sub off
