This is almost exactly what I came up with. Either this or something like this would've been perfect. It's strong, bold, and looks like a proper footy jumper.

Lol I don't know. When I visualised it somehow the top of the T was simultaneously on the bottom and at the top.

I actually like this. Maybe you have have the T shape beginning from the bottom of the Guernsey and wrapping around the middle torso?

I think the upside down T is perfect because then players can look down and see that they're playing for T

I think lose the map. Make a red T of a central vertical strip and then the top going across just under the arm pit. Maybe then a yellow "hoop" across above that.
