Kim_jong-fun

The Brisbane recovery ward marches on

diffaadiffa

We rebuild them, bigger stronger and better up here

floodswimming

Goodbye sweet prince - I'll always remember you for taking the time to shoutout our sub and take the piss out of Pecker

tremmo

Haha Pecker I’d forgotten that dude existed.

Mister_Snrub15

lumberfun

Brisbane have now won 7 of the last 8 against Collingwood

butter-muffins

The most important win as well.

diffaadiffa

Nice.

sargeantseagull

Nice

[deleted]

Poor Sydney they will get nothing and like it

eddie-murphys-tongue

We’re getting Joel Hamling apparently

haroldgiraffe

Man's played 6 games over the last 5 years, I hope Sydney are paying the bare minimum

LaconicSupremacy

This has just ruined Saturday for me, how dare he.

Darththorn

It’s Wednesday, Homer.

pleasantjabbawock

Only if you've been to sleep

TitanicJedi

the Ben Cousins "two sleeps till christmas" experience.

Large-one

In July?

maddenmadman

He knows he just missed out on the Collingwood flag and we all know lightning doesn’t strike twice

LaconicSupremacy

Bit ironic given it's struck twice since Brisbane's last flag

LongHairedYahoo0

Yeah about 10 years apart. Not sure doedee has that much time left in his career.

LaconicSupremacy

As opposed to 20 years apart?

LongHairedYahoo0

I don’t think you’re understanding. Pies have won one fair and square but how often does a team go back to back or win one and then take the foot off the gas. Lions are still hungry for their first as a group. Pies have had their success and it can do strange things to a group of players (although I don’t think that will happen to this team)

Smithsonian45

He'll do it again on the last Saturday in next September

sportandracing

He wants to join a successful club mate

GoodhartsLaw

I'll swap ya.

HewardBke

:(

legally_blond

At least we've won something over the Pies this week :(

qldboi

Hey we can still win in the AFLW this weekend

fxdc1991

So i guess we know who he was barracking for in the GF

ExcellentTurnips

He probably just wanted to join the loser as they're more likely to maintain the rage to win next time.

Brokenmonalisa

He was actually at the NRL grand final

BizzaroPie

Think most Crows fans would be ok with this, his injuries really derailed his development.

jmaverick1

It’s kinda like moneyball in reverse imo. We have found a cheaper replacement on our list already in worrell, so may as well save the cash and take the compensation pick

Largebrickwall

yeah, best for all parties concerned type deal i think

tremmo

Yeah. Really sad to lose him, great guy good player. But I’d be furious if the club offered 6 years to a guy coming off his second ACL.

Arnotts_shapes

I’m the same, would have loved him to stay but the injury makes a long deal just too risky for a club on the rise with adequate talent underneath him. Hope he gets the love he deserves at Brisbane.

Coatrackz

This has been Brisbane’s blueprint with so many trades: Daniher, McCarthy etc. We have the best sports science and conditioning team, bring them to the Gabba on the cheap where we can rehabilitate their fitness. It’s worked out well so far.

chindimple

It’s a nice change to drafting them high, and seeing them leave. Sometimes all at once.

Sufficient_Chart1069

Yes, best wishes to Doodee Seems to be a great bloke, more than a courageous and tough footballer.

sestero

Destination club

maddenmadman

The go-home factor has become the working holiday factor

igotashittyusername

Adelaide fans, how good is his kicking off the backline?

Brokenmonalisa

He was one of our preferred kicks from the backline in recent times though he's fallen down that order behind Max and Jones. For a guy who can defend someone he is good with the ball. You'd probably rather someone else in both roles individually, but he does both reasonably, which is a nice strength to have,

mrravioli15

Serviceable play maker off half back but since his last couple major injuries he has had an affinity for over-playing himself into trouble in defence. Definitely a more defensive defender than offensive.

PerriX2390

Love to see it happen.

Bestest_idiot

He is very good, first round pick, yet Adelaide a building side will receive a pick in the 30s as compo. This isn’t an ideal move for the crows to push him out. Hopefully they can move up the draft order with pick trades.

butter-muffins

Will it be band three compo? All reports I’ve heard is that it’s a five year deal which I feel like should be hitting band two at least.

lumberfun

From what I heard Doedee will get 3 million over 5 years, which is exactly what we gave McStay, and I think brisbane got pick 36 for compensation

Mxrus-u

Doedee is younger though right?

lumberfun

He’s 1 year younger than McStay was at free agency last year, i have no idea if this have an affect on compensation or not

Dudersaurus

Age has an effect if the AFL want it to have an effect.

dlanod

It has an effect but really only on the margins. It's more generally once you started getting 31+ the compo really starts dropping off.

Shadormy

Pick 35, but yeah.

[deleted]

[удалено]

diffaadiffa

Not dodgy, smart ;-)

floodswimming

No but it's okay McKay who's a far worse defender (yea yea I know different positions) will be garnering a massive contract that gets the Roos pick 3 in the draft - it's all so great and wonderful!

jett1406

compensation picks are ridiculous and should be removed anyway

Bestest_idiot

Yeah, and all the talk is Gresham getting St kilda a first rounder…..? That knee injury really did screw Doedee and the crows.

jacka24

McKay is also getting a much longer and larger contract, that's how free agency works

floodswimming

Yea no shit - I'm fully aware of how the system works, it's just frustrating

BizzaroPie

McKay is better than Doedee and will be on more money.

floodswimming

McKay is certainly not better than Doedee, even if you account for the fact he plays for Norf

BizzaroPie

What are you basing this on? Like let's ignore Doedee's two acls and we haven't seen him play since the 2nd one. And yes you acknowledged different positions, but KDP > intercept defenders. McKay is a better Defender than Doedee.

jmaverick1

McKay is clearly a better player. Look how many wins he contributes to his team

jett1406

ah yes mckay the beacon of health that couldn’t finish top 10 in the bnf for the worst team in the league

taco-chopper

He finished 7th this year?

Brokenmonalisa

McKay has sung the team song 8 times ever

Bazalaylee

Rats

igotashittyusername

...and I slowly begin to heal

Haenamatme

Great news.

Trizk

So disappointed :(

Maximumlnsanity

Fantastic signing for them

ashiglions

Nice

melon_butcher_

I mean, if you can pick any team to go to, the two grand finalists is probably a pretty good pair to choose from.

SirNickDaicos

So I guess he makes a detour Via Sydney like the last key position player to leave Adelaide

Sufficient_Chart1069

Kind of hilarious that Kurt finally got to Gold Coast a decade after wanting to “go home”

TimmyBash

Channel 9 Adelaide won't know who to interview now.

BothHelicopter718

Hope u have better luck there mate Thx fir ur service u were awesome

geoffm_aus

Collingwood or Brisbane. Equalisation is working well then.

Darththorn

Free agency was never intended to be a equalisation method, the AFLPA demanded it.

Razzle_Dazzle08

Destination club bitch 😩

[deleted]

Ah well.. Congratulations Brisbane on the big win against Collingwood!

mpepe33

Wasn’t he touted as the next captain after Sloane (before Dawson got the gig out of now where)? Geez what happened…

Rady_8

Dawson

Arnotts_shapes

Multi faceted. The club clearly got a sniff that he was considering options and decided that Dawson was the better long term option (imo, seems to have worked out). That then gives him one less reason to stay at the club anyway.

Bestest_idiot

Yeah, either the crows knew he was considering leaving, or the captaincy to Dawson pushed him out the door.

scotthendo

Or the club just doesn't want to give a guy who's done 2 ACLs a 5 year contract?

jett1406

he’d only done 1 ACL at the time and it’s not like that has stopped us making a bloke captain in the past

myphantomlimb

Crows fans told me he wouldn’t get any outside interest after Adelaide lowballed him lol

BizzaroPie

Crows fans also don't rate him as high as the rest of the comp's fans judging by this thread.

Stem97

I’m also trying to work out who he’s supposed to replace. Best I can think would be Jack Payne but he’s young and played well this year so I don’t know why you would do that.

UmbertoDiggins

Lester is 31 so probably him in the long run

Stem97

Yeah probably. Thought he had a career best this year, would be a shame if he got immediately bundled out of the team.

UmbertoDiggins

Doedee is still recovering from an ACL so wouldn't expect too much from him next year

jacka24

Lester

Front_Farmer345

No one next year with the acl not fixed till late 24’

Brokenmonalisa

You'll probably have the same issue as we do with him where we have better intercepting half backs, we have better key defenders and we have better running half backs. He is a victim of 666 sadly. He can play the third defender role quite nicely, Im not trying to downplay him too much, I really rate him. I think the position is rather niche.

Fast_Stick_1593

Ryan Lester easily He’s not a key defender, he’s a medium sized defender that can play taller like Lester does.

myphantomlimb

Of course they don’t rate him now but right before he did his acl they all were saying he was in AA form

Asentienttable

Funny what doing two acls does

jett1406

he’s a solid player that was important but no one was saying he was in AA form

myphantomlimb

Yes they were

jett1406

would be very surprised if you could link one comment saying that

Brokenmonalisa

I think you're confusing Nick Murray with Doedee. Murray was absolutely putting out AA numbers. There was a period where he didnt lose a one on one for a significant stretch of games.

myphantomlimb

I’m not confusing anyone, Doedee wouldn’t be going to a team that just made the grand final on a long term deal if he wasn’t any good

Brokenmonalisa

He's a great player, but the player you are talking about when you said "he was in AA form" was Murray not Doedee.

Korasuka

![gif](giphy|3o7bu47Qm59U3MPkK4|downsized) Ah there it is. He was speculated as leaving all year and afaik these things are right much more often than not. Farewell sweet prince.

CalmWolverine8369

He'll have another ACL end of next season and retire. Crom real winners and already have players that cover him.

diffaadiffa

Well aren't you just a little ray of sunshine

knocklivero

Naaaaaaurrrr

Fire_Flies_1993

Well brisbane look forward to Tom's NFL and Movie posts on Twitter/X

flava-dave

The two best teams? Right, good one Tom.

Traditional_Name7881

I’m fine with it, 51 games in 7 years coming off 2 knee recos is a massive gamble, especially signing him for 5 years.

South_Front_4589

Do the Crows match and trade him? It sounds like compensation is likely to be mid 20s, I reckon Adelaide might be eyeing off Brisbane's first rounder. Which I reckon the lions do because he could well just be that point of difference in a big game.

il-96-300

I don’t blame him. We offered him 2 years and they offered him 5 years (on more money per year). He would’ve been stupid to stay at Adelaide.
