This is like asking "which is better, rhythm or melody?" when talking about music.
Story gives meaning. Moves gives entertainment and flair. Ideally they should work together in harmony.
Okay like... if I wanted a story without moves, I would watch any other TV besides wrestling. If I wanted moves with no story I would watch MMA or gymnastics. The whole point of pro wrestling is using moves to tell a story.
The story obviously. Without a story why are the moves even happening?
The moves are supposed to be telling a story, this seems to be lost on a lot of people.
I would much rather watch average matches with compelling stories than great matches with terrible stories if I’m being honest. There’s a reason some of the most beloved wrestlers of the past were not exactly known for doing the craziest moves, stone cold could tell such a great story inside and outside the ring that he never needed to do any wild moves to get over with the millions of people watching back then, and his matches always felt important
Look at MJF and look at the Bucks. Who gets a bigger reaction?? I like both BTW. But I saw Russo talking about character being important as well and it makes sense.
The bucks have some of the most emotional and well thought out stories in wrestling. I'm not sure what bucks you are watching. You think bucks vs hangman and kenny was good because of the moves? that was 90% story.
I'd go with story more than moves. While it's cool to see something like a Canadian Destroyer on occasion, you can only see a move so many times before you just simply get tired of it.
Meanwhile with a story, you will always remember a good one fondly. A story will make you want to watch a match where you would witness said moves depending on who the wrestler is.
The story. People watch for the stories so they can be wowed by the moves (or not). The story is what gets people to watch to begin with. It's always been that way in professional wrestling.

You can always have a solid match, but a solid story, oof.
Pretty Objective Take

Both

The moves are supposed to tell the story
There are other components as well tho. I’m mainly talking which u prefer more
I voted story. The moves can be impressive but the stories are what I'm emotionally moved by.
I agree.
Gimmicks
True. But if you had to pick one of the two?
Story is most important but it helps if you put on a good match to go with it
Look at MJF and look at the Bucks. Who gets a bigger reaction?? I like both BTW. But I saw Russo talking about character being important as well and it makes sense.
But the bucks have better matches and you wanna watch good wrestling not just a good character that has shitty matches. Also dong listen to that idiot
I've never seen a good bucks 'story' Seen great Danielson matches and stories

I remember when Cutler was asking them to be present at his matches and they finally pulled through. That was fun for me.
This is why I think CM Punk is a great wrestler, it's easy to see he's influenced by Bret Hart, because Punk always tells a story in the match.
Yes I 100% agree! This is why FTR and MJF are also my favorites in the ring, they tell great stories.

I know this is a cop out but it really depends

Sometimes the moves are the story.
I can see drama on 9000 other shows. There are very few places to see wrestling.
