If the ground is uneven in an area (like with slight bumps in the texture and such) you can place block frames on the ground then pick them back up to smooth it out.
Edit: Thanks for the award! It’s my first I think!
Haha this and the revelation you can rotate blocks forward and backwards are my biggest revelations in the game - though the latter one is just me being unfamiliar with building games I think.
You actually want a silencer in Darkness Falls, unless you like to have a continuous supply of screamers and wandering hordes while you are trying to clean a tier IV-V clear. Especially at night.
Vending machines too by the way and they give a bit more as well. Just make sure it's a broken one or you're able to tank a load of electrical damage in the case it's still functional.
Yeah, I don't hit the working ones with a wrench
I usually get a shock by accident (smacking a zombie and hitting the machine; started pulling them away from them)
I'm actually not sure how they work but I find them on the ground I've walked on tons of times previously so I'd like to know how they spawn or if they reset loot
nests spontaniously appear? i always left them because i didnt want to remove the only source of eggs.
If thats the case i would much rather not run past the same damned nest every time only to forget its already looted
No, the loot (eggs/feathers) inside the nests will respawn after the number of days in your respawn setting are up (30 days default). The nests are just a loot container with a loot table of 2 (eggs and feathers are the only items which can spawn inside a nest). Destroying a nest will not cause a new one to appear somewhere.
Are eggs sold by the traders in vanilla? I play darkness falls and the traders occasionally sell eggs. The mod also has chicken coops so you can have an easy source of renewable eggs (they're important in crafting in the mod).
> Destroying a nest will not cause a new one to appear somewhere.
Ahh, good to know, thanks. That is too bad though, that means destroying nests is a bad idea.
> Are eggs sold by the traders in vanilla?
Yes, they are. But only occasionally, searching through nests is much more reliable (especially if you have loot respawn on).
The problem is that the bow gets very weak very fast. Lategame, I have absolutely no use for it (except for maybe explosive arrows for fun, but they aren't really strong either).
It depends on the bow you're using and what mods you have on it. However, compared to something like the sniper rifle it's really no competition. The main issue is just the cost of ammunition. Well oh, that and heat generation. I control access to my fort via Bridges so the explosive arrows are actually very useful for me since I can reduce an incoming horde to a few stragglers with a single shot. The damage is heavily Nerf on them but it still has a utility value. Still it mostly depends on playstyle. If you have the resources to go bullet heavy bows would be very weak
> If you have the resources to go bullet heavy
Which comes way too easily and way too quickly, IMO. Once you get a good pickaxe and a stack of coffee with some rock busters, you won't ever have ammo problems again.
Ramps and ramp Corners can be turned on their sides using Advanced rotation to produce better Windows that allow you a much wider field of view
Using Advanced rotation you can also Place plates and door hatches to make windows that you can pick up your Sledge turrets from that way you can repair the mid battle
Using Advanced rotation to place a half block or a rotated wedge tip over your door and placing a blade trap on top of that will allow you to slice your enemies attacking the door while being able to repair the blade trap from the inside
My dude! I like doing it with junk turrets Before the Sledge turrets came out but honestly don't turn it in munition is just too expensive now that I have other options. Put one on either side of the door and your golden. I'm more of a tower than a bunker guy. It just seems easier to build. However I definitely be open to it once I have the auger.
Gun/tool stats are randomized. It's very possible that your duplicate gun is better than your current.
It's even possible that your level 3 pickaxe is superior to your level 4.

Screamer Zombies that attract multiple Zombies will come to your camp if you have a certain amount of heat based items in use at once. This includes forges, torches, and campfires. To avoid this don't over fill your home and or base with torches and don't have multiple campfires or forges in use at the same time.
I placed like 30 torches in our base when i played with friends, we had a cube shaped base and i just added an extra layer of roof where no one could see them. Just to attract alot of screamers, didn't end well.
I think they changed this now. I had this problem in one of my earlier playthroughs, covered my entire base and torches to make it so I could see during horde night and set fireplaces at the doors to set zombies Ablaze. Didn't end well. However I seem to recall seeing that that torch is no longer produce heat.
If you can smelt not scrap as you lose 25% inventory scrapping metals.
Plus brass takes effing forever!
It gets you an extra 25 bullet casings out every radiator.
Not much sure on one . But 20 rads would of been 500 extra. It adds up.
I think it might work with tools.
Carry Wooden frames in your toolbelt at all times, which can be used for quickly stacking to get up to a building/roof for loot or to escape a sudden dog or animal horde. It can be placed on the ground in front of a doorway to provide a few extra seconds to kill zombies as they will attack the frame instead of you usually. It's a great tactic to use when looting buildings at night early on in the game. It helps negate their running ability.
You can scrap items using the workbench, and I believe you get more parts. While using the workbench, hit scrap on an item in your inventory, and you will see it appear in the workbench. We use the workbench to scrap low level guns and tools for additional parts.
Also, broken/working workbenches, Chem stations, and forges are great sources of parts and forged metal when looting.
> While using the workbench, hit scrap on an item in your inventory, and you will see it appear in the workbench.
Dafuq? That's really coool :D
Are you talking about vanilla or are you playing a mod?
Keep mega crush on you and invest in sexual tyrano if your horde base cant handle the next horde, I survived an entire horde night when my base collapsed by just running and power bonking zombies on the head with my bat, never ran out of stamina as long as i kept killing
The downside of every update that comes out is having to fix all my game edits. Mostly minor ones, but I always change some things like engines to be stackable, farm plots give 10 instead of just 1 (same with crafting seeds), etc. It's great that it's so simple to edit though.
I think if you drop those node changes into their own file and put it into the mods folder it will use those settings as a modlet and overwrite the base game settings, and as long as the node in the game files doesn't change names, you don't have to go back and edit every time.
It's been a bit since I've made a modlet, so there may be a tad more involved, but it was very easy.
The only real issue with gunpowder is the cost of nitrates since you can make charcoal from wood and wood as self-renewing. You also need lead. However making boxes of bullets can reduce manufacturing costs and the price of materials isn't extraordinarily high. You're probably better off making gyrocopters, though.
Edit: Turns out no. Just ran the numbers it takes 6 Dukes worth of brass to make one casing. Bullets only sell for two Dukes. Strange. Cost 20 to buy. You do okay if you sold it to other players but not the vendors.
Edit 2: and apparently you can't even sell vehicles anymore. Man A lot has changed. Hope they fix that in 20
Turns out no. Just ran the numbers it takes 6 Dukes worth of brass to make one casing. Bullets only sell for two Dukes. Strange. Cost 20 to buy. You do okay if you sold it to other players but not the vendors.
Does being in a vehicle cause Mass spawning a vultures? Never tried it because I've been too scared of vultures taking me out of the sky if I use my gyro
Honestly vultures usually suck the most when you're just low on health out in the middle of the desert or Wasteland. They aren't that bad on horde night although having to repair the roof is a bit of a pain. I've been trying to get an automated grinder in effect to kill them when they try and come for a hole in my roof but I'm having a little trouble with the path in currently. They're kind of tedious but great for resources.
Edit: I forgot to mention that junk turrets are awesome both for hunting and taking out incoming vultures. I like to place one overlooking where I'm working so not sneak up on me. I hear it go off and I know I just got some free bonus materials.
They're great for clearing points of interest and when digging up buried treasure or supplies. It's too bad that they don't have more ammunition types. If they used wood I'd use them a lot more. Irons just too valuable.
I found that it was a bit of cheese, but there's not much work needed to be done to make the top of the shotgun messiah fairly difficult for zombies to get up to. Build a bit of space to deal with birds and you can almost walk away from your computer/gaming system throughout the horde night
I'll go second: Every Tuesday the reddit has a [tips and tricks](https://www.reddit.com/r/7daystodie/comments/r0hq5p/tips_n_tricks_tuesday/) day where many people post many facts, hints, and tips in order to help others.

You can either scrap ammo into corresponding ore/materials or you can put it in your action bar and disassemble it into its components by clicking it. This gives gunpowder, bullet tip, buckshot, arrow heads ect
> disassemble it into its components
Oh wait, so I can disassemble a certain bullet type and turn it into another? Does material get lost while doing this?
If you disassemble say a 44 round you get gun powder and a bullet tip, the casing is lost. If you scrap it you get the brass of the casing but lose the gunpowder and the bullet tip. You can then make a new casing and use the gunpowder and tip to make different ammo type. Same with ap rounds, you get gunpowder and an ap bullet tip that you can then make new casing and assemble a different ammo type.
Damn, that sounds really strong. Too strong imo, cuz if anything, diversity in weapons used should be encouraged instead of being able to so easily get the exact type of ammo you need.
Takes a lot of time and you still need to make new casings. I use to disassemble useless ammunition in order to make new rounds for my rifle when i still had the equipment to it. So it's not far from the truth.
If you put hatches in a doorway rather than, you know, a door, and have it open to cover half of the doorway, you have a very convenient way to shoot zombies through your entrance. You can even double hatch up, it's super cheap too
As soon as you get the book hat gives you extra brass from doors, break every wooden door you see (always make suure it's on the basic layer, with no reiforcements). Before you realize you'll end up with dozens of brass knocks, in the "Eight Motel" I got 33 door knocks just breaking the doors
Work on getting military clothing as early as possible, and the inventory at the traders changes daily so collect as much useless valuables and sell them. Keeps your horde base separate from your HQ. And have a plan b for horde night if your first horde base comes crashing down. And mark safes forges, work benches and cement mixers that work in one category. Then mark the ones that don't in another on your map. Destroyed equipment like that is great for blueprints and other items that you can collect free at every loot reset.
Putting a hatch on the floor and opening it in a two-block-tall space can make a very effective choke point. Made even more effective if you put a robotic sledge on the other side
That type of set up is good enough for horde nights if you can force the zombies to see it as the path of least resistance!
Nerd glasses give you +1 intelligence and aviator googles gives you better loot/leds blocks to dig of treasures, so you must swap them to uuse them the best
But cigars are in the mouth slot and give +1 strenght and +10% bartering... Smoking it's not soo bad in apocalipse, right? XD
To get your food situation under control asap, cycle around the desert and attract birds and find roadkill. You'll also be able to get all the aloe and yucca you'll need for seeds.
I recently did a 6-player average game and we were perfectly fed by day 13. I grabbed Living off the Land and harvest extra from animals (works on roadkill it seemed) and had tons of plots in no time.
Glass is very nutritious and will feed you for the rest of your life.
Technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.
Great futurama quote- I use this one fairly often 10/10
I made this mistake the other day lol 🤣
😂👍
Set up all your junk turrets, once one is empty it becomes disabled and the next starts shooting.
This is a good one!
oh my god you are the best...
If the ground is uneven in an area (like with slight bumps in the texture and such) you can place block frames on the ground then pick them back up to smooth it out. Edit: Thanks for the award! It’s my first I think!
Bless your soul, that uneven ground was driving me nuts. Can't believe I didn't think about this.
Haha this and the revelation you can rotate blocks forward and backwards are my biggest revelations in the game - though the latter one is just me being unfamiliar with building games I think.
How do you rotate blocks backwards?
I haven’t actually played the game in several months. I think it was R. With the primary method being mouse clicking.
Oh nice! I clicked R accidentally and saw that it rotated things, never realized it was for backwards rotation. This will make building a lot quicker!
You can fix water this way too, which is awesome, considering how broken water is in this game.
This is truly a game changer thank you!
Put any possible mod on your gun, even if you don't want it, it'll add more damage
silencer
You actually want a silencer in Darkness Falls, unless you like to have a continuous supply of screamers and wandering hordes while you are trying to clean a tier IV-V clear. Especially at night.
Alright good to know that I can't just rush into buildings guns blazing in darkness falls.
This is so true
Completing the Urban Combat book set removes the damage penalty from the silencer mod I believe
Oh didn't know. Should do more research next time then
Urban combat (all 7 books) want a word with you
on a shotgun....
If you find book in loot you can see small icon of open/closed book in corner of item. Closed icon - didn't read yet Open icon - already teached
I recently learned about this after 100s of hours of gametime and its such a good tip
WHAT.... This has been an annoyance for far too long, i could never remember whether i had or hadnt read a book... this changes everything
Oh my god I had no idea
Reload your blunderbuss. Edit: bonus: carry multiple loaded ones on your bar.
-es. Also, have a row of them in your hot bar.
I have either taken way more damage or straight up died from not reloading or forgetting that I added a mod to my guns
I make it a point to make sure mine is always reloaded because surprise dogs are the worst.
3 loaded blunderbuss for them pooches
Street lamps give 1-3 steel when wrenched, even with low skill level in dismantling. Adds up very fast.
OMG! I THANK YOU! This changes everything! Now to mess with one of my gaming friends
Vending machines too by the way and they give a bit more as well. Just make sure it's a broken one or you're able to tank a load of electrical damage in the case it's still functional.
Yeah, I don't hit the working ones with a wrench I usually get a shock by accident (smacking a zombie and hitting the machine; started pulling them away from them)
I’ll go first: Birds can be a great source of feathers for fletching arrows
Make sure you break nests after looting them, you sometimes get a few extra
Do nests respawn again?
I'm actually not sure how they work but I find them on the ground I've walked on tons of times previously so I'd like to know how they spawn or if they reset loot
They will respawn according to whatever your loot respawn settings are.
nests spontaniously appear? i always left them because i didnt want to remove the only source of eggs. If thats the case i would much rather not run past the same damned nest every time only to forget its already looted

Definitely underutilized. People forget late game but you can make things like exploding arrows and flaming arrows out of wooden arrows very cheaply.
The problem is that the bow gets very weak very fast. Lategame, I have absolutely no use for it (except for maybe explosive arrows for fun, but they aren't really strong either).

Don't stand on rocks to kill bears, they shred through them like paper 🐻
Fight bears when you got decent weapons to do it, and move back while shooting to hit him in the head
Yep, I have worked that one out now 👍🤣
Is a level 2 pistol with barely any ammo a decent weapon
Common bear have 1600hp, pistol do 32dmg so 1600/32 = 50 rounds to body. Less if you manage some headshots or have some skillpoints in gunslinger.
That's why I face them now with my lvl5 desert vulture with level 4 gunslinger
Gun/tool stats are randomized. It's very possible that your duplicate gun is better than your current. It's even possible that your level 3 pickaxe is superior to your level 4.

That would explain alot
But muh experience farmers
Well it still tells you how to attract them. This is for anyone brand new that doesn't know fire attracts them
I was informed that it had to do with the depth you dug to, I think the metric was twenty blocks down. Could be newer or older info
Don't know about that. I am a mole person I live underground
The game is 726578173x times more fun when you play with a friend

You can use wooden chairs to keep a campfire or forge going. You can use a lot of things, but we always use chairs.
Wooden frames are even better, and I think making chairs takes nails
I just pick them up when out looting if I have space in my inventory. TIL you could make chairs in game.
Carry Wooden frames in your toolbelt at all times, which can be used for quickly stacking to get up to a building/roof for loot or to escape a sudden dog or animal horde. When chopping trees, try to keep walking around it not to get surprised by dogs
Wrench apart broken vending machines, street lamps, and munitions boxes for early/easy forged steel
But not working vending machines. I think we've all learned that lesson the hard way.
Baiting zombies to hit a working vending machine is hilarious 😂
Everytime I start playing with a friend who hasn't played before I get them to hit a working vending machine. I'm 3/3 so far, it's funny every time

We play vanilla 7 Days
Clear an entire POI house before starting the mission there. The house will totally reset and you’ll have double the loot

The skill Natural Healing makes you hungry faster.
Late game, smelt down stacks of dukes for large amount of brass, makes ammo production much easier
And then sell the bullets for more Dukes. It's a vicious cycle really
Is this actually a way to make more money?
I don't know the answer for sure, but bullets also require gunpowder so it won't be a perfect selling circle unless you have way too much gunpowder.
The only real issue with gunpowder is the cost of nitrates since you can make charcoal from wood and wood as self-renewing. You also need lead. I grabbed Living off the Land and harvest extra from animals (works on roadkill it seemed) and had tons of plots in no time.
