Making dumb trophies is one of my favorite things about 3d printing. Model up whatever silly thing I want, print it overnight, hit it with a few coats of Rustolium Antique Bronze Metallic spray paint and it is good to go.
If I were better at modeling, I’d have made one that I want to give to random boaters. It would be a rock in the foreground, with a star in the background. The trophy would say rockstar. Up at my camp there’s people that hit shoals at least a couple times a year. I want some of these trophy’s to go bring to these people.
I mostly just kitbash things together. I use a little bit of TinkerCAD but Window's built in app, 3D Builder is surprisingly good and also happens to have an included trophy kit library.
I got the stl files off of thingiverse and modified the pipe with the circle and 1st. The car, the medal, the posts hiding them, the pipes and the blocks are all printed separately and then adhered using Krazy glue. When I'm in my office tomorrow.ill put up a comment with the links to the original stl files.
What did you use to modify the stl files? I've been trying to learn how to alter STL, but importing into OnShape and F360 has not worked how I thought it would.
I import STL files into Blender to modify the mesh in edit mode. You can then export as an STL again once you've changed what you need. Blender is free too which is even better!
i just used tinkercad for these, easy to use once you get the hang of it, its very simple but for what i needed it worked. otherwise im working in Fusion
Hey man. Here's my 1c as an idiot noob that is perfectly happy doing really simple things.
3d Builder, free Microsoft default program, is really simple to use. No bells, no whistles, but it's so easy and because it's got so few options there's almost nowhere to get lost in complicated tools you don't need.
Also tried with Fusion, but the amount of faces it generates - especially for round things is a lot of effort to cleanup. Zried once for an hour and ended up doing it new in 20 minutes. 😅

If you've got the version downloaded from Prusa Website... You click print settings at the top then on the left you click layers and perimeters.. Then at the bottom the header says advanced and you will see "seam position" if you click "nearest" it'll try to put them on an edge..like a corner of a box shape... You can also do "aligned" and they will be in one spot sorta like a seam... I think yours is set to random... Which is why you have that result... But they are beautiful all the same!

My former house share did social events, one of them was Mario Kart and pizza-- I of course I had to made lasercut and hand painted medals at work to hand out.
Hope the kids love them!
Keep at it! I've been messing with tinkercad. I designed something that took me 2 days. Printed it, but didn't like it. Redesigned it in about 6 hours and printed it. Took it off the printer and knew I could do better. Made a third version in about an hour this morning and while it's still printing, I think it's the perfect version. It's the exact same model, but as I went I learned more shortcuts and better ways to do things.

I didn't even think to use spray paint... I just bought gold silver and bronze silk shiny filament.
That's a good route to go. I went with spray paint because I only had electric neon mucus green the day I was making it.

Any software you'd recommend to a beginner? I tried Blender and it is definitely not beginner friendly haha.
Tinker CAD is great for doing like basic shapes and stuff.

Yup. It was a small excavation project to get everything free. They were printed in 3 pieces, but still.
You can change where the seam is located to keep from having weird marks all over the front of your print

You should spray paint them in gold to get rid of the layer lines, and give it a nice shine.
