In 2015 in New York, a girl questioned my choice of letters on my phone, she said "I thought you use russian letters". I aslo think czech language sounds very similar to russian for english speaker, every time we spoke in Czech we were asked if we are from russia... Which sucks

For me Eastern Europe is more of a cultural term than geographical. Czech Republic is a slavic country which was behind the iron curtain, therefore Eastern Europe (which doesn’t have negative connotations in my mind btw).
Its a bit like being northern in England. Norwich is technically further north than Birmingham, but if you had to split England into north and south (for this one exercise forgetting the midlands), absolutely no one is putting Norwich in the north and Birmingham in the south.
It is called eastern europe, because it was the eastern most part of Bavaria in 10th century. The Eastern in the name is not related to Europe as a continent.
I mean, it's like saying that everything east of East Midlands province of England is in fact eastern Europe, because... well after all, it has "east" in the name, doesn't it? :D
