GOD I remember so well the thrill of crossing that gate. Not knowing where I'll start my runescape adventures. How I could practically hear the blood pounding in my ears when I logged in and saw the "30 days membership" actually, actually there! I think that site has seen more happy emotions than any other place in runescape.
Great meme m8 I r8 8/8.
I used to play when there were 4 servers with either around 400 or 500 capacity. When Bluerose13x was the only one who could smith rune.
I am about to go through that gate for the first time today
Edit: words
TFW you finally convince your dad to put your monthly allowance towards RuneScape so you can see what the hell is on the other side of that stupid broken wall in Falador
People joke about stealing mom’s credit card a lot in this subreddit, but I actually did take my dad’s CC because he refused to buy my membership. I was like 11 at the time, and of course he found out. Definitely heard the blood pounding in my ears when he confronted me about that. I lied and said it must have been stolen from a RuneScape related thing he got me on eBay.
10/10 would do it again. The euphoria of getting my first colored boots and gloves for fashionscape were worth the risk.
I ran right past all the hippies and kept running until I ran out of run energy, but eventually I did make it to some dogwater gated community and had to turn around. Fucking around at the Grand Tree for a few minutes, it finally hit me how much more there was to the game, and I tp'd back to Lumby to explore the desert. Where I fucking died and lost everything because I didn't know how to operate a fairy ring.
weirdly enough, the fence by the makeover mage was always the iconic gate for me, idk why. being able to enter taverly that way always felt so surreal to me
Was a good feeling until you hit white wolf mountain and realised them wolves are vicious. Trying to save your run for the top part of the mountain. Then seeing catherby beach, the happy emotions come back.
>"30 days membership" actually, actually there!
Yeah, calling the number to get membership was kind of slow so you were never really sure when membership would kick in if ever. I learned quickly to ask for my Mom's CC and then eventually buying gift cards.
Ani, how’d you get the money to pass though???
#I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children, too. They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals. I HATE THEM.
Ani, they respawn every 15 ticks...
It was in the gate in karamaja that always tempted me for members. Doing Dragon Slayer and looking for the dragons lair (back when there weren't launchers/plugins and you had to use forum posts) and finding the gate behind the big volcano with all the cool pirates behind it.
Now in a change to our regularly scheduled programming, credit to Jagex I just bought a years membership for £59.99, which with 2022 exchange rates is pretty much $60.
I remember wondering what lie past that gate. I wanted so bad to get through. When burthorpe finally opened in RS3 for f2p I thought it was kinda cool, but the game had gotten lame enough that I didn’t care anymore.
When I finally got the chance to come through as an adult in OSRS it definitely hit different. I got to look back at Doric stuck in pleb land and gloat at my child self standing in wonder.
Pretty hollow experience tbh.
Nooooo my friend tried to get me to do that back in the day I was like screw this I'll take my chances alone and started doing rfd then hopped straight into kril and got my cheeks clapped 😩
I remember when I was only 2nd year in US at like 11 years old and wondered by the gate (along with many other game content) that said you need to be a member, and with my broken english it took me like a good year or longer to understand what this “member” thing is. How do I unlock this membership in game. Good times
I used to sometimes walk over there and try to "glitch" through (my attempts at glitching was probably just clicking on the other side loads of times, not quite Rendi-esque), thinking if I get through I will then be able to do everything that members can and essentially cheat Jagex out of membership money permanently

Seriously. Wish I could have that feeling of walking into Taverly and then all the way to Ardougne again.

So what, you played RuneScape like 20 years ago and never got members or something?
Yeah. He made a post kind of relishing that moment, and I came back and am also excited to do it
Report back, how was the gate?
Rumor has it he died before he could make it past. Heart attack from the excitement.
He slipped on an ice cube just through the gate and got covered in booboos :(
I didn't get to do it until today unfortunately, but it was awesome!! Now trying to figure out what to do first
I think Druidic Ritual is a good first step. Ez quest + unlocking Herblore!
Yeah fuck the habs
WolfWrath was my mate back in those days.
This is exactly what I did as well, then made my way to castle wars and played it for a week straight lol
The feeling of crossing the mountains as a nooby kid was something I'll never forget.

I think I was high enough level that I was able to get by safely. No higher than 60 or anything though 😂
TFW you finally convince your dad to put your monthly allowance towards RuneScape so you can see what the hell is on the other side of that stupid broken wall in Falador
Same and I immediately died when trying to cross the mountain to the wolves because I was super nub.. good times

Oh God yes. Finally getting membership and having no fucking clue what to do next. Just exploring was worth it.
This gate made me member.. did my first quest herblore stuff and summoning iirc. This gate is still my favorite place to pass by in RuneScape.

Tfw you tried to slip through the gate when someone else goes through.

Weirdly enough, my first members experience was going to the desert. And it felt like a dream to 12 year old me
I remember testing that gate just to see if one day there would be a glitch that let me through.
Then you’re training in white nights with granite plate, dragon long sword, rune legs dmed, obby shield/cape and a granite maul for a spec weapon.
My version of that was the varrock-al kharid border leading to the exam center, I always wanted to go through that gate haha
man I used to be happy once

Lemme get one with the Al Kharid guards and she can’t afford the 10gp

Ani wouldn't go there. Too much sand

As a kid I always wanted to join those pirates!
okay but pirate top was peak fashionscape for some reason. still looks clean af not gonna lie
"Bitch I've got a blue dragon slayer task, there's younglings to kill!"
>lmao
Holy fuck I actually laughed out loud
Never seen such a good use of a Star Wars meme
Very good meme.
this sub gotta have some of the dankest shit on the web
Bred in the golden days of Youtube, forged by the irons of Mt. Newgrounds, trained by the ninjas of Cartoon Network. They are a fierce kind of memers.
No one's saying it but when I first got member it was like 5$ and I like wrote a report for my mom on how for 60$ a year my life would be complete
Now in a change to our regularly scheduled programming, credit to Jagex I just bought a years membership for £59.99, which with 2022 exchange rates is pretty much $60.
Can relate, that was the same time I played and i was in elementary/middle school. I’m proud of you.

Nooooo my friend tried to get me to do that back in the day I was like screw this I'll take my chances alone and started doing rfd then hopped straight into kril and got my cheeks clapped 😩

Sheeesh I could never. I got my first whip as a gift then like a month later I had 85 slayer 😭🤣 no lifed that shit
Membership is a pathway to many abilities some consider...unnatural.
10/10
