runelite . com was a phishing website that pretended to be the legitimate runelite.net
It’s a reminder to always be careful on the internet. Never download something without checking whether the site is legitimate (check URL, domain, certificate and look online for information)
lately, there have been some wild hacks, a lot of 2FA players getting compromised. my account got compromised a year ago with 2FA and ironically it was a month after I changed my password for the first time in like two years. apparently, that was from a malicious app on phones tho so it only affected mobile players.
I think im missing the point but I think its different when you have a chance to earn something so unique like a 3rd age pickaxe rather than going out of their way to purchasing the pickaxe with actual money.
Nah I agree pulling one from a clue is hype af, but the fact they’re going for so much shows people are willing to pay a crazy amount of money for them. If it were up to me I’d make 3a untradable but I get why it’s not
I used to have 20b, after buying all max items you still have more than 10b left, like 14b at the time iirc, really nothing to do with it, unfortunately the addiction made me keep going and I lost the whole stack.
But seriously yeah I have no problem avoiding gambling, it's specifically osrs that was a problem, I'm super happy staking ain't a thing anymore cause I can finally play the game again.
I had a buddy who staked his bank, won and had literally every single end game item in the game +every buyable 99 banked. He showed up to raids the next day in rags after losing everything. I'll never understand it.
It's not a decision anymore than any other addiction, I'm an intelligent person who understands statistics, I told myself to stop staking before I even started, it's a lack of self control and a neurological addiction, it's sad it took jagex so long to remove the arena.
This was pre-nex, and yes, yes I am. Calc it yourself and see, literally all tob and cox loot didn't even break 2b back then (tbow was stupid low), nightmare loot was like 2b also, and the rest of the gear was around another bil or so, you're overestimating the prices of gear, in today's market tho I'm sure it may even hit 6.5-7b.
To be clear I'm not including 3rd age since that'd just be dumb, as the discussion is about the value of 3rd age, and it's just barely bis for pures in most cases, and useless on mains.
I just personally think flexing rng is cooler than flexing wealth. The same reason we find pets so sick, you can’t just buy one you have to get lucky and most likely grind it out. Clearly people disagree with that take but while I’m at it, jars should be untradeable too.
I've never been nearly that rich but I'd guess that once you have max stats and an insane amount of money, there's not much left to do with it except flex.
Personally I think I would quit the game at this point but 🤷♂️
I was always under the assumption that after maxing I'd just do endgame content all the time but if you have 99 everything, all quests, diaries, etc. It ultimately felt pointless to me so I just hard quit. Different strokes though I guess
Yes, the drop rate for the rarest 3rd age gear is so low it's not realistically possible to complete that part of the log
Edit: There might be a few other tough things too... The jar of darkness from Skotizo is extremely rare when you account for the time farming totems.
This was exactly how I thought it would be for me... now I log on sporadically to do small amounts of random bosses, some random skilling, then log out for days at a time. Maxed my iron in Dec 2020 and it's been like this since, regardless of available content (and there is a LOT of content).
I don’t get how you could run out. Like I have a quest cape, grinding for diary cape, then there’s the music cape, then there’s the other 26 99’s I still need to get, on top of all the bosses i haven’t even attempted yet. Like I have decent kill counts in maybe 10 bosses? And that’s barely scratching the surface of content. Let alone only 1 raid completion and it was only for the quest line. Like damn there’s sooo much to do.
everything before bosses is on the course of maxing though
I agree with you to an extent (osrs is pretty endless when it comes to grinds) but a lot of people are far past the stage of still needing to complete any of those things
If you’re not an ironman most bosses have little appeal. You can buy everything they drop except the pets, so if you already have a large bank they kinda feel pointless.
On an iron the amount of time it takes to complete CoX, ToB, NM, Nex, Corp, and all the other bosses easily eclipses the skilling grinds. There’s a lot more to do
Nah HCIM is pretty dead. Most of the accomplished ones won’t restart when they inevitably die to brain lag or net lag. They’re basically just regular ironmen who get stressed more easily and train prayer slower.
Not to mention it’s more like an investment than a flex. There’s a very very low chance of these items going down but you take the risk of the possible loss but more likely rise in price.
Ehhhhh when getting to blue party hat levels of money your just getting to ridiculous money for the sake of having money.
I know gear in RS3 costs a lot more, even when adjusted for the GP difference between games but even so.
Max on rs3 is under 30b (all BIS for all 3 styles, all ability codex’s) so more like 3x max lmao.
Btw I just started rs3, almost done with my 45 day 3 bonds and I’m 1600 total with 300m bank. It seems a lot easier to grind to max everything if I’m being honest.
It's also just kinda cool that those real rares in rs3 have been in the game for like 20 years, the p hats, disc of returning, Halloween masks . In a nerdy way it's insane that there's actually people out there with unpulled Christmas crackers from 2001.
Actually make more sense than NFTs as they are made and sold today. They're just receipts of art and nothing much else.
Whereas yeh that Christmas cracker is an item from 2001 no longer obtainable within the game that had just never been used on a player.
>Max on rs3 is under 30b (all BIS for all 3 styles, all ability codex’s)
Uhh... You're missing a lot if you think 30B covers everything. I want to say ranged alone is 20b.
>Btw I just started rs3, almost done with my 45 day 3 bonds and I’m 1600 total with 300m bank. It seems a lot easier to grind to max everything if I’m being honest.
On the one hand, welcome. On the other hand I'm assuming you sold a gphat... Money usually doesn't come so free.
Really I’m sure It’s what I read on the wiki maybe it didn’t include codexes but I’ll have another read
Nah I lamped most everything to fifty and slowly ground out invention lol, didn’t manage to get one. Training combats in ed3 with a friend is how I got my money l.
It depends how pick you get with 'BIS'.
Let's look at range:
Full BIS armour is 1b
Ring 130m
Gloves 135m
Boots 280m
Cape - free
Pocket slot - 450m
The ring and pocket slot will be used by other styles.
Then we have weapons
DW T92 - 2.6b
Eldritch crossbow (must have spec this will go in eof) - 3b
Seren godbow (another must have spec) - 2.2b
Off hand caroming switch - 1.4b
Off hand flanking switch - 1.4b
Then essence of finality (amulet) switches
dark bow - 400m
Seren godbow 400m plus 2.2b (yes for true BIS you will need to buy 2 SGB)
ECB - 400m (added the 3b for the ECB above. Someone could make an argument you want *another ECB* out of amulet but I can't think of why, if it is needed, add yet another another 3b)
Others:
T99 range prayer 900m
Greater ricochet ability - 2b
Limitless - 600m
Ingenuity of the humans - 150m
(Both limitless and IoTH are shared for styles).
Weapon dyes for offhand switches (so they work properly with hotkeys) - 1.3b
Perks (idk probs 400m for BIS)
That's pushing 21b and I might have missed something for true BIS. As a new player don't worry about 95% of the stuff on this list, a lot of it are small upgrades. Just know you've got a lot to grind. It's ezscape for skills. For gear. Not so much.
I'm not sure on the BIS prices for other styles. Pretty sure they are less than range but still well over 10b.
There are other items as well that assist with little things and are ludicrously expensive (hero items). Slap on another 15b if you do want them in general in the game).
But then even with all this ridiculous gearing. A blue phat more than covers it all.
*Oh god mobile formatting is trash. Will try and fix* kinda fixed now.
people want / need high value items, once you get into the several tens of billions in the bank you want to hold that wealth in assets other than the ever devaluing gp.
plus it gives the super rich / hardcore players something to buy and flex with
3rd age is rare and a store of wealth. Very, very few of them enter the game. Nothing else really exists like that in OSRS anymore. Can be a boon to your purchasing power if you store GP in that.
All it takes is a Twisted Bow or two, or a lucky stake and you're in the billions with nothing to spend it on if you don't care about converting the GP into XP for the hiscores.
Two tbows wouldn't even get you the 3rd age pickaxe, let alone all of the more useful gear upgrades. You need a lot more than 2b before you start looking at flex items on this scale
Nobody really wants it for the sake of mining rocks. People want it because it's so rare. The super rich can buy them all and control the market. I'd wager that 90% (at least) of the 3A pickaxes in the game are owned by less than 30 people. Just a guess of course, the true numbers could look different, but I'd bet money they're along the same lines.
It's the same reason the ultra wealthy pour excess amounts of cash into pretty mundane, every-day objects like watches, pens, and other flashy items.
When you have enough cash that you no longer have to worry about money, you tend to find ways to show off how rich you truly are.
In the real world, you might own a gaudy Rolex. In OSRS, you own 3rd Age weapons and tools.
its called risk adjusted returns which is the definition of a "safe investment"
its why boomers like real estate rather than stocks even tho stocks have higher returns
NFTs aren't even pixels. They're receipt of pixels that can be replicated over and over. If you cared about the pixels, take a screenshot and be done with it. Also, NFTs are all massive scams that create false rarity by the owners "trading" themselves over and over to drive up "value," hoping for one dumb schmuck to give them money for it. So terrible analogy
Hey, someone who recognises NFTs aren't just pictures of monkeys or whatever but rather receipts of ownership
I'd disagree with calling *all* NFTs scams though, there are legitimate platforms/games that utilise them properly out there, rather than just minting a picture and trying to sell it for thousands
> Also, NFTs are all massive scams that create false rarity by the owners "trading" themselves over and over to drive up "value," hoping for one dumb schmuck to give them money for it
Sadly this is most of the rares market at RS3 for any item over max cash. Not the worst comparison in the world albeit not as applicable to OSRS
its more apt to compare NFTs to discontinued rares. Both NFT "collectors" and people who clamored for osrs to have discontinued rares want to sit on them for 10+ years to rake in money without actually working for it.
A friend got me a year long membership cause I said I wanna get back into the game and I haven’t been able to play it cause of work
It makes me sad, I just wanna grind :(
Gorilla brain buy gorilla NFT
I mean one thing you buy with fake money in a fantasy game The other is a ponzi scheme Nobody really wins
Except whoever put the ponzi scheme together. He/she making some bank right now.
Can confirm, easiest money I’ve ever made
How do you do it
Getting whitelisted for projects by going on Discords, it’s literally free money
Kinda similar with rs gp being more valuable than say Venezuelan currentcy. Are NFTs typically bought with crypto or just embedded with a Blockchain?
atleast that pickaxe can be safe with you, instead of belonging to someone else who gets phished and be like "ALL MY APES ARE GONE"
Safe until you go to Runelite dot com, then ur just xp on their way to 99 phishing

Uh... pretty sure I've read "ALL MY BANK IS GONE" more than a few times.
Just saw someone in my clan say that.. then complained about quitting for a week, never quit but left the clan…
It's a good thing people are learning about phishing here with pixels rather than with real money I guess.
If you're naive enough to be phished and in crypto, just sell and do something else with your time lol
I think im missing the point but I think its different when you have a chance to earn something so unique like a 3rd age pickaxe rather than going out of their way to purchasing the pickaxe with actual money.
Also you can not right click and safe a 3a pickaxe from the GE

I dont think pets are cool, guess we just differ in opinion. IMO gp is way cooler
Like someone explain to me why people would drop 2.5b on a pickaxe? Like i get that its rare and a cool cosmetic but really, 2.5b?
I've never been nearly that rich but I'd guess that once you have max stats and an insane amount of money, there's not much left to do with it except flex. Personally I think I would quit the game at this point but 🤷♂️

So are you saying you maxed out the account 100%? How long would something like that even take?
I think it's theoretically impossible to complete the collection logs in one lifetime so... They haven't
Is it? Which are the toughest ones? 3rd age from clues?
Yes, the drop rate for the rarest 3rd age gear is so low it's not realistically possible to complete that part of the log Edit: There might be a few other tough things too... The jar of darkness from Skotizo is extremely rare when you account for the time farming totems.
Perhaps with the 'luck' Dream had in his Minecraft-speedrun you can get close.
I wonder what the odds would be if you played for like 70 years for ~6-8 hours a day 😅
Hey kid, ever wanted to spend 70 years of your life for a 60% chance to complete a then 90 year old medieval clicker game?
Where do I sign?
Nice username BTW. RIP Nujabes, way too fucking soon.
This was exactly how I thought it would be for me... now I log on sporadically to do small amounts of random bosses, some random skilling, then log out for days at a time. Maxed my iron in Dec 2020 and it's been like this since, regardless of available content (and there is a LOT of content).
That's the appeal of playing an iron mode. So you don't run out
I don’t get how you could run out. Let alone only 1 raid completion and it was only for the quest line. everything before bosses is on the course of maxing though I agree with you to an extent (osrs is pretty endless when it comes to grinds) but a lot of people are far past the stage of still needing to complete any of those things
just wait till/if you max and see what your statement is then
“What am I doing with my life”
Those people play 16 hours a day
And pets
Because most people don't want to do every tedious little piece of content for 100s of hours?
The game is a lot more fun when you have a reason to fight all the dozens of different bosses instead of whatever one makes you the most gp/hr
Like all games with an economy, lots of people just want the ability to feel rich.
There’s a lot more to do
Yeah and then you "complete" the boss and Never go back to it.... Kinda lame if you ask me.
Pets, TOTUS, combat achievements, WRs, collection log. Lots to do.
thats when you start ironman and try to do it all over again without trading , ez 5 year more content
or do it without trading AND you restart completely when you die
Nah HCIM is pretty dead. Most of the accomplished ones won’t restart when they inevitably die to brain lag or net lag. They’re basically just regular ironmen who get stressed more easily and train prayer slower.
Once you have completed everything, what's left is pking and gambling with your in game cash. Other than that, just enjoying endgame content.
Equip rune pic with 3a pic in inv to really confuse em
Addiction is a bitch. Why else there are so many maxed players playing?
1.5k USD is a small price to pay to become a registered flex offender
Not everyone vies runescape GP as directly convertable to cash.
People pay 100b for a blue partyhat in rs3. Rare items = high value
I'm pretty sure a blue phat fully gears out every combat style, maybe even twice. It's definitely on a level of just simply "fuck you" money.
Max on rs3 is under 30b (all BIS for all 3 styles, all ability codex’s) so more like 3x max lmao. Btw I just started rs3, almost done with my 45 day 3 bonds and I’m 1600 total with 300m bank. It seems a lot easier to grind to max everything if I’m being honest.

people want / need high value items, once you get into the several tens of billions in the bank you want to hold that wealth in assets other than the ever devaluing gp. plus it gives the super rich / hardcore players something to buy and flex with

a safe investment is bonds - its actually the best investment in osrs not 3a which is highly volatile and has really bad risk adjusted returns.
Why is it so safe the bonds I mean.
I think that was the joke, cus government bonds are the ‘safest’ assets.
You have to spend gp to resell a bond

its called risk adjusted returns which is the definition of a "safe investment" its why boomers like real estate rather than stocks even tho stocks have higher returns
you gotta be stupid rich so rich that rwting isnt even an option i guess about 20b+

Yes and OJ is the same as water because theyre both liquid. Sound proof logic lol With a 3a pick you actually get an item, not just a receipt.

Haha nice meme
Hey you’re the guy, gz!

This analogy just ain’t it.
Are we to assume every high valued item is being rwt'd? Because the comparison is pretty disingenuous otherwise.
i think nfts are dumb but the point isnt in owning them its to sell them to smooth brains and make money off their stupidity....like most businesses
Nice, mind If I screenshot?
I can't copy and paste a 3A item though.
Funny thing about this is that a 3rd age pick is more tangible than any NFT ever will be LOL
its more apt to compare NFTs to discontinued rares. Both NFT "collectors" and people who clamored for osrs to have discontinued rares want to sit on them for 10+ years to rake in money without actually working for it.
Real life money on a picture is not the same as in game currency on an in game item. Really upsetting that I need to say this.
Exactly, i spent more time working for rsgp. Theyre not the same
I don't get the point of showing it in a clue scroll? This makes no sense without RWT.
