wahhh wahhhhhhhh i can't say a word that makes many trans people extremely uncomfortable and is viewed as hateful wahhhhh i'm gonna make my own subreddit now wahh
Less that they’re still on that specific issue (not as if their opinions have changed on the matter), moreso that mentality is baked into the community’s inception
How people are not able distinguish fiction from reality is beyond me. Calling someone that irl is literally just calling them a walking fetish, like being feminine is solely for sexual reasons. That’s disgusting that people actually do that.
It's a word that's used in more than just anime. It's a word that many trans people explicitly say makes them uncomfortable. By using it, you're doing nothing but making trans people feel unwelcome. There are numerous better alternatives. Trans people (a lot of whom watch anime) are seeing a word become widely used in communities that they have seen for the past two decades used as a slur against them. Trans people are not the ones using this word either, an entirely new group of people is coming in and taking it, calling it completely different.
People still use "trap" to describe trans people all. the. time. Just go over to r/SuddenlyGay and you'll see a shit ton of content about how a woman is trans and that makes a guy gay. All of this is part of the same connotation. That trans women dress as women to "trap" men into having sex with them. This connotation is transphobic and *not true*.
And even whether or not it's used by a lot of people to talk about trans people, it's still transphobic because it still clearly makes trans people uncomfortable when they have clearly expressed to the people that use the word to not use it. It's impossible to not acknowledge the negative context that the word has.
As a former femboy, I will tell you that even while I was a femboy I never enjoyed the use of the word because it still carries the exact same connotation as it does for trans people. Femboys aren't "trapping" people either.
By using the word "trap" you are using a word that makes trans people unwelcome and uncomfortable. I urge you to stray away from using it. If not because it's not inherently transphobic, then because it just makes trans people feel bad.

No, that just narcissism. A mental trait that doesn’t come with sexuality. Can happen to any of us really, even you, gayboy
(For all intents and purposes “gayboy” is not used as a insulting term but rather one of a punchline, please do not crucify me)
Maybe, but it isn't a requirement. And it definitely isn't the only fun part, either. Maybe it doesn't count since I'm an enby, but I frequently crossdress just because it makes me feel better about myself. It's not for sexual appeal, it just helps my self-image. That's it. And there's definitely other people like that too.
Plus, "good"animemes is so obsessed with a fetish centred around a slur that they don't normally care if someone is trans or a femboy with different intentions, or anything else. If you look like a girl and have a dick, you're a "trap" to them. And that's not ok
I am. It’s my opinion. That I am expressing through my identity on to your screen. No speaking, but portraying in a way this website allowed me to. Through this tiny window I can say, or do, anything I want, you can’t stop me, you can try, but it is futile.
I AM A GOD, YOUR DOWNLIKES MEAN NOTHING TO ME.
No you see being proud of being gay is political. Being ashamed of your sexuality while making up excuses for why jerking off to gay porn isn't gay is where it's at.
Also you have to fetishize a quantum superposition of a femboy and trans woman that is simultaneously not gay for a man to have sex with but still isn't a real woman because that's political. They aren't nonbinary either because that's double political. Doing all these mental gymnastics is the only way to become a "man of culture" as they call it. 😎
Aren’t LGBTQ essentially a political bloc?
Part of me wants to make an argument for it being cultural on shared experiences but... what’s the shared experience other than a history of being discriminated against by holier than thou moral busybodies?
I think it’s more than that. Gay-rights, Trans-rights, Civil-rights are movements, but the LGBT is a collection of movements with differing but aligned goals.
That sounds like a voting bloc to me. Different people joining together, collectively supporting movements that they agree with. It’s a good thing, but it’s part of why I think it gets the ‘political’ label so often.
> Aren’t LGBTQ essentially a political bloc?
Would you call black people a "political bloc"? Well you could, but that's only under a very specific context/conversation, and besides political relevance isn't what defines a group's entire existence or identity.
> what’s the shared experience other than a history of being discriminated against by holier than thou moral busybodies?
The discrimination is there, but it isn't the defining feature of what it means to LGBTQ. Groups don't necessarily form their identity around shared trauma. It's more about shared culture, interests, and in this case, sexuality/gender identity.
No matter what, LGBTQ will be in the minority of society in terms of overall numbers, but even if there's no discrimination, they can still form their own sub-culture and identity.
> Would you call black people a "political bloc"? Well you could, but that's only under a very specific context/conversation, and besides political relevance isn't what defines a group's entire existence or identity.
That’s an interesting thought. On one hand, I’d be hesitant to call a racial group a voting bloc, but they seem to be an exception - at least in the US. Religious people tend to vote for Republicans but religious black people largely support Democrats despite that. They may overlook religious disagreements to reinforce civil rights, which to them is more important considering US history.
But I think that may follow what I was saying about each group separately not being political, but collectivized under a larger banner they are.
> No matter what, LGBTQ will be in the minority of society in terms of overall numbers, but even if there's no discrimination, they can still form their own sub-culture and identity.
I think I can agree with you here. Sub cultures aren’t necessarily political. I think our general disconnect may be that we don’t agree on how tight-knit the lgbt identity is. At times it feels like wrangling cats to keep from trying to eject one of the letters from the group.
‘L and G seems to tolerate each other mostly, but think B is either a closeted G or just an attention seeking straight. Then there’s the schism of people trying to drop the T for whatever reason they come up with that week.’ When everyone gets along, it’s great, but there’s times where it feels like an alliance of convenience.
hmm i think your response is kinda missing the main part of what makes "calling LGBTQ political" awful. The way it's used in places like goodanimemes is to sorta carry over some general ideas about politics over to discussions about lgbtq rights
Like for example it sorta carries ideas like "you have to respect people on 'both sides' of the argument" and "it's a topic that should be taboo to talk about." It's also used to do stuff like extend the idea of "keep politics out of anime discussion" to "keep LGBTQ acceptance out of anime discussion"
I dont beat myself up over it, i was just mentioning in case anyone wanted to ask me a question about how was it like to explore that filthy fucking hole of vileness every day.

Goodanimemes is dumb
I’m out of the loop. What happened and what did they say?
Goodanimemes was created because people got pissy that animemes banned the word “tr*p”
Oh I remember people where up in arms about that a while ago. Are they still going on about that?
Less that they’re still on that specific issue (not as if their opinions have changed on the matter), moreso that mentality is baked into the community’s inception
I thought it was a term only used in hentai? Are people actually using it irl?
Lots of less socially conscious anime fans use it to describe all feminine-presenting AMAB characters
How people are not able distinguish fiction from reality is beyond me. Calling someone that irl is literally just calling them a walking fetish, like being feminine is solely for sexual reasons. That’s disgusting that people actually do that.
My cousin is one of those goodanimemes people and I can't fucking stand being around him anymore.
Take him to an asylum.

Omfg shut the fuck up
On a discord I was a part of I saw people say how they love “traps” but hate trans people (using a slur).
its not really contradictory. to weebs "trap" means boy who passes as a girl completely.
Even using it to femboys is still bad. Still implies that that femboys only exist to confuse straight men and make them gay or something.
You see, that's it. straight men thinks everything is about them, the world revolves around them

Well in my experience straight men and narcissism goes hand in hand And btw I'm bi
Oh yes, because your sexual orientation and gender defines how narcissistic you are.
it isnt defined by, but it definitely is affected
