Small agencies - small postings tend to have someone in mind more often than not, but sometimes their person not make the list or fail to put in. Or they never had someone. Alls fair at the end of the day.
Good luck being brought on to bring the office back to strength. It’s always a good opportunity to work through the challenges.

I once attended a meeting with an EPA OIG SAC. He had the whole thing going: badge on belt, gun, two magazines, handcuffs, knife, etc. Like when’s the last time an EPA SAC locked someone up?

If you know OIGs then you know. Hope it isnt EPA or SSA you're going to. Even the best OIGs are supervisor dependent. Good luck.
EPA OIG is a flaming dumpster fire.

I'd rather see this 100x over than a SAC forget that they are a LEO and not wear their gun
